A Warm Welcome by the Chengdu Panda Research Base

Duties: Provide information on China’s history at tourist sites; authoritative lectures and discussions on giant panda biology and conservation.

Places visited: Beijing tourist sites, Great Wall of China, Xi’an tourist sites, Chengdu Panda Breeding Center and Zoo, Wolong Panda Reserve and Breeding Center, Bifengxia Panda Breeding Center and Animal Park, Ocean Park in Hong Kong, cruise the Yangtze River from Chongqing to Shanghai.

Special features: Banquet at Great Hall of the People in Tian’anmen Square; Banquet at the Great Wall (first ever for a tour group)


Zimbabwe Under the Southern Cross, July 15-August 1, 1998. Organized by Acacia Travel, Inc., San Diego, California.

TOUR GROUP CAMPS AT MANA POOLS IN ZIMBABWE

Duties: As an authority on African wildlife, conducted game drives, boat cruises, and evening fireside chats.

Places visited: Bulawayo-Amalinda Lodge, Hwange National Park, Victoria Falls National Park, Kariba Lake, Mana Pools National Park.

Namibia, Botswana, & Zimbabwe Safari, Sept. 5-20, 1993. Organized by Harm Safari on behalf of the Zoological Society of San Diego.

TOUR GROUP VISITS NAMIBIA’S SPECTACULAR ETOSHA PAN

Duties: As an authority on African wildlife, conducted game drives and evening fireside chats.

Places visited: Windhoek, Etosha Pan, Okavango Delta, Victoria Falls, Okaukuejo, Kalahari Desert.

THE ROYAL MONKEYS OF PRINCE RAINIER COME TO SAN DIEGO

Duties: Arrange meetings with zoo leaders, provide commentary on each zoo visited.

Zoos visited: HOWLETT’S (England), ANTWERP (Belgium), APPENHEUL (Netherlands), ARNHEM (Germany), KÖLN (Germany), DUSSELDORF (Germany), ALPIN (Austria), BERNE (Switzerland), BASEL (Switzerland), MILAN (Italy), CENTRE D’ACCLIMITIZATION (Monaco).

(Tour leader had negotiated acquisition of His Serene Highness Prince Rainier’s collection of Lion-tailed Macaques. Dubbed “The Royal Monkeys,” this group was warmly received by the San Diego Community.
